Yuri’s Night Returns to the Bay Area: April 9th and 10th 2010
Two Days of Education and Entertainment in Celebration of Space

Featuring Exhibits, Speakers and Performances by the Black Keys, Common, Les Claypool, N.E.R.D. and More

San Francisco, CA, March 21, 2010 – Symbiosis Events, Ankh Marketing and Lumatech Lighting, in association with NASA Ames Research Center, are proud to announce the return of Yuri’s Night, an event like no other, celebrating humankind’s curiosity with space and technology. The comprehensive two-day event will be held at Moffett Field in Mountain View, CA on Friday April 9 and Saturday April 10. Over 10,000 people are anticipated to join astronauts, installation artists, musicians, scientists and engineers for two days of learning, exploring and honoring the stellar achievements in space exploration over the last 50 years. Tickets for the April 10th festival are now on sale at www.ynba.org.

The first day of two-day extravaganza is an education day free to all elementary, high school and college students. With a variety of interactive exhibits, hands-on activities, and guest speakers, the education day boasts a full day of nonstop action and fun, to explore art, space, technology, and the future of the world being built in Silicon Valley and learn more about the worlds beyond our planet.

Day two brings together some of the biggest acts to the diverse festival on April 10th. With highly anticipated live performances by blues rock duo, the Black Keys, Grammy-nominated and actor Common, orignal member and musical visionary Les Claypool (Primus), space enthusiasts and chart-topping group N.E.R.D. (with Pharrell Williams), along with a host of other live performers, the festival will also feature dynamic art installations, flying demonstrations, world-class food and drinks, special guest speakers from NASA and much, much more.

“We’re thrilled to be at the forefront of such a progressive event,” said Ankh Marketing’s Kamel Jacot-Bell. “We’re excited to bring such a multi-faceted event that bridges education, entertainment and exploration to one of the most diverse and innovative cities in the world.”

“This year’s free education day is the realization of a vision we’ve held since the first Bay Area Yuri’s Night event at NASA Ames in 2007,” noted Karen KoChen of Symbiosis Events. “Our team has brought together some of the Bay Area’s leading minds for this unique opportunity to engage and inspire the next generation of scientists.”

Yuri’s Night was founded by members of the United Nations’ Space Generation Forum in September 2000 as a way to commemorate the first venture into space by Russian Cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin on April 12, 1961, and the launch of the first Space Shuttle by NASA exactly twenty years later. Taking place in several cities worldwide every year, dozens of new Yuri’s Night events are added to the global space celebration, with nearly 120 cities participating to date. The Yuri’s Night Bay Area festivity began in 2007 at NASA’s Ames Research Center and since has grown into the world’s largest annual Yuri’s Night event!

Ames Research Center, one of 10 NASA field installations, is located in the heart of California’s Silicon Valley at the core of the research cluster of high-tech companies, universities and laboratories that define the region’s character. With over $3.0 billion in capital equipment, 2,300 research personnel and a $600 million annual budget, Ames’ economic impact is significant. Ames plays a critical role in virtually all NASA missions in support of America’s space and aeronautics programs.

As a leader in information technology research with a focus on supercomputing, networking and intelligent systems, Ames conducts the critical R&D and develops the enabling technologies that make NASA missions possible. Ames also is a leader in nanotechnology, fundamental space biology, biotechnology, aerospace and thermal protection systems, and human factors research. Ames research in astrobiology focuses on the effects of gravity on living things, and the nature and distribution of stars, planets and life in the universe.

In addition, Ames works collaboratively with the FAA, conducting research in air traffic management to make safer, cheaper and more efficient air travel a reality. Ames engages in information and education outreach, forms collaborative partnerships, and fosters commercial application of NASA technologies. Ames is developing NASA Research Park, an integrated, dynamic research and education community created to cultivate diverse partnerships with academia, industry and non-profit organizations in support of NASA’s mission.
